In 2019, a huge asteroid just barely missed Earth. It was large enough to totally wipe us out; it was compared to the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. Scientists couldn't detect it when it snuck up on us. They claimed that the size was undetectable until it was very close. It was less than 1/5 the distance from Earth as the moon is; it passed between us and the moon. I used https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...-scientists-almost-didnt-detect-it-time/ to get my information. Here's a link to a video of the asteroid going by Earth, it's nerve wracking, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UogbvS429k8

You know? I thought the same thing when it was announced! If I remember correctly, it was maybe two days before it was supposed to pass by us! Do you suppose they didn't want to cause mass hysteria? Now, it's much more common to hear about these near-earth-objects passing by! Scary stuff!! Does anyone else remember this?

I think the idea of the gravity tractor is really cool. NASA said, that they would use the orbit of the spacecraft to move the asteroid out of the way. But, it wouldn't work for asteroids that are bigger than 500 meters.

There is a movie similar to this subject, "Armageddon, 1998" the movie involves an asteroid coming towards earth, without spoiling it the solution they use is quite different from NASA's

I didn't heard anything about a giant meteor heading toward Earth since their was no emergency warning about it.
