In the default installation of NWN, when your character dies, you just hit the re-spawn button, then get back up. (Usually to get whacked right back down).

How is death and re-spawning handled in your favorite video games? In the old days, we would get 3 "lives", then that's it...game over. How have things changed?

In most games you have a checkpoint and if you die, you respawn at the checkpoint. In GTA, if you die you actually respawn at a hospital. Some games have a hardcore mode and if you die, you'll have to restart from the beginning. In some games like Subnautica, if you die you restart at a home base with some of your items.

In my favorite game(Minecraft) there are beds that are used as a re spawn point you lose all of your items and have a set time to get those items before they disappear so if u get unlucky u could end up losing all of your stuff permanently.

In many games nowadays, there is an autosave system in place, where once you do a specific thing like walk in a building or complete a quest, it saves your progress. This is a great system for if you forget to save.

In one of my favorite games that I play, the first time you die, you get one chance to resurrect yourself, and the next time you die you re spawn in the last place you rested (which is where you saved the game). The catch is, each time you die, there's a sickness that spreads throughout the empire, getting worse and more deadlier each time you die. So you have unlimited lives, but each time you die you get severely punished for doing so. This way, it encourages the player to try not to die as often.

In these past years games like pubg death are usually when they get killed they die until the next round. Call of duty mobile when you play team death match you can respawn back to the game but on battle royale you can't resapwn back.

My favorite game allows five lives. If you run out of hearts, you have to wait to regain your lives in order to continue the game.

well some games start out with one and only one life, and that is a lot harder then a majority of games, but i like having to try in a game and come up with more strategic moves that's why a one life games are cool.

My favorite video game is JUST CAUSE 4. It takes alot of gunfire and explosions in order to die,but when your main character (Rico Rodriguez) does die you'll respawn in a random location closest to where you died. In JUST CAUSE 4 the player has an infinite amount
of lives.

I don't like playing games but when I do it's usually Minecraft... You can re-spawn as many times as you want in a normal world. In hardcore mod you get one map and one life.

In most games I play you respawn somewhere else so you don't usually die over and over again and in some you get unlimited lives in some you get limited lives and in some you lose you things and have to start over when you die

In most games, there will be a "health-gate", this is a term mostly for rpg's and used as a balancing element, such as, "If the player is above 55% of their maximum health, than they can't be killed by only one hit, excluding off screen."
This is my favorite form of player health, you still cherish your hp, even if you can't be one-shotted.

Well I don't play video games beside Fortnite like probably 2 times before ever but even in that I play the team mode so I do respawn because I suck at video games, so I can't really respond to this.
