A new study has found that freely available AI systems are able to be used to avoid triggering MOSS (Measure of Software Similarity), a plagiarism detection system for coding. Such AI systems are able to generate introductory-level programs in various languages including programs that required making conversion tables, BMI calculations, and various other situations. Despite having numerous mistakes, they are easily correctable by anyone with basic coding knowledge and are allegedly able to be used to cheat on coding exams for tech companies. The reason that this article appealed to me was the sheer irony that some of the most advanced technology in the world is being used to cheat on simple programming. Ultimately, preventing someone from cheating is an impossible endeavor no matter how many situations are accounted for. Eventually, it reaches a point where in trying to prevent cheating, you turn away those who are actually skilled while those who cheat simply have to put in a slightly larger degree of effort into what they are doing.
